IN-PERSON (!) Wild Edible & Herbal Appalachian Walkabout in Burnsville, NC
Saturday, October 24th • 10:00 AM-1:00 PM
672 Bee Branch Road
Burnsville, NC 28714
Come learn about wild plants you can eat and use as medicine to EMPOWER yourself and your community!
Abby Artemisia, a botanist, herbalist, and forager, will take you on an adventure through a gorgeous, biodiverse rural area to see what free foods and herbs surround us, how we safely and ethically harvest them, and how to preserve them.
If you came to the last plant walk, there's still more to learn! We'll cover new plants, and new perspectives on plants we've already covered.
Appalachia is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, with so much to offer in the way of food, medicine, and, of course, beauty.
On this walkabout, you'll get an introduction to basic botany to demystify plant identification and use all of your senses to learn more about these plants.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your questions, field guides, notebooks, and cameras, along with hiking boots, rain jackets, and water bottles. We will be on a gravel road that slopes. It won't be intensely physical, but we will be walking about a mile, partly uphill. Bring a chair or something to sit on in case there is rain and we end up in the barn.
Masks are not required, as we will be outside.
You will be responsible for keeping social distance.
Abby will have her book, The Herbal Handbook for Homesteaders, and her ethically wildcrafted Appalachian herbal products available for sale after the walk. Bring cash, check, or cards to purchase. Since there's little reception, the credit card reader may not work, so please bring cash or check for products
