This will be a beginner's intro to botany of wild and cultivated plants. Abby, a botanist, herbalist, and forager, wants to make botany accessible for you, whether you’re an aspiring (or practicing) forager, herbalist, or plant enthusiast. You'll get to know some of the tips and tricks to basic plant identification using the patterns, or families, method of identification. Once you start noticing how plants are related, it's easier to recognize them. Plants in the same family are often edible or medicinal in similar ways. We'll talk about basic flower and plant anatomy and introduce you to some helpful descriptive words.
Then we'll get some real world experience hiking the trails of Grassy Key Botanical Garden with the garden’s Director, Erica Klopf, identifying wild edible plants. This is your chance to delve a little deeper into your study, getting to know what the plants are really about and resources to help you along the way.
Abby will be offering her wildcrafted herbal products and her book, The Herbal Handbook for Homesteaders, for sale after class. Bring cash, checks, or cards, to get your own.
March 3rd 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Keys Cable at Otherside Adventure Park
59300 Overseas Hwy
Marathon, FL 33050
Price by 2/29: $25
