Rooted in Gratitude: Learn, Forage & Feast with Abby Artemisia and Doug Crouch - 11/30/19 (KY/OH)
Hello Ohio and Northern Kentucky! Abby Artemisia of The WANDER School returns to Treasure Lake to co-teach again with Doug Crouch of TreeYo Permaculture on November 30, 2019. Another daylong adventure in the forest, focusing on roots and gratitude, awaits all you lucky participants.
Have you ever felt something missing in your Thanksgiving celebration, a disconnect from the food, the meaning, like-minded people? Let’s shift it! Let’s get together with family of choice to celebrate the abundance of wild foods surrounding us. We will be focusing on the magical world under the soil as we head into winter, the great dark unknown. Roots are a fantastic metaphor for that, as well as seeking the medicine and food we need.
Fall is the ideal time to harvest roots, when all the vitality of the plant is returning there for winter storage. Learn how to identify them, how to harvest them, and then we’ll work together to transform them into a delicious feast of gratitude, along with some other wild goodies like nuts, pine, sassafras, and spicebush. You’ll also get to turn some into tinctures (liquid extracts) for your winter herbal first aid kit.
Bring warm layers (we’ll be outside digging and foraging), a water bottle, digging tools if you have them (digging/potato fork, trowel, shovel, hori hori), and an extra cutting board and knife if you can. Be sure to let us know any allergies (including allergies to alcohol) or dietary preferences you might have.
